An undeniable success aptly describes tournament one.
However we at BritSoc feel that there is more to be done,
So we are going ahead and organising tournament number two,
To make this an even bigger success we once again need you !
Tournament one was fun and friendly and certainly fair,
As you may recall if you were one of the participants there,
Never fear however if you missed it the first time around,
14th of May is the date when you can recover lost ground.
Beginner, intermediate or an absolute whiz?
It matters not a jot – what your level is.
And if there is one more thing for which I could plead,
More female participants – it’s certainly you that we need !
It goes without saying of course like in tournament one,
That this time too there are great prizes to be won,
And once all the badminton games are complete,
There will not be far to travel with your weary feet.
Straight to the bar upstairs is where shall all head,
There is no better way to put this tournament(& season) to bed !!

Winners of 2007’s People’s Choice Award at the annual New Zealand Music Awards.
In 2005 Opshop brought in Manic Street Preachers producer Greg Haver to help shape their songs. Released earlier last year, “Second Hand Planet” entered the charts at #5, hitting #1 32 weeks later, beating out Radiohead on their debut week for “In Rainbows”. The single “Maybe” has achieved the honour of being the biggest song at New Zealand Radio in 4 years, holding the #1 spot for 12 consecutive weeks and was the only song to receive over 10,000 spins in 2007. The album has now sold over 35,000 copies in NZ. They have supported Snow Patrol, Silverchair and Powderfinger on their recent NZ tours.

The British Society of Amsterdam is hosting its fourth cricket game in Hoofddorp on Saturday 17th May. The game starts at 13:00, we meet at 12:00 for practice and coffee. We are still looking for a few players to complete the final 22. Equipment: Extra pads, bats and equipment can be provided; all you need are sports shoes similar to hockey, squash or running shoes (no cricket spikes) as we play on a matted wicket. The emphasis will be on good social cricket, eating, drinking, laughs and a BBQ to end the evening hosted by real “SA Braai Chefs”. For partners & kids: the Cricket ground is opposite Speelkasteel, an indoor kids entertainment centre, plus HealthCity Fitness & Tennis Club & Spa and 8-10 minutes walk from the excellent Recreational Swimming lake in Toolenburg, Hoofddorp if you need some other distractions for the family.
BBQ expected to start around 17:30. Hopefully some prizes will be on offer for the best batting, bowling, dropped catches and Ducks.
RSVP is essential to cater for those attending. Please let us know ASAP.
Cost:EUR 12,50 per person (kids EUR 7,00) including lunch and BBQ. (Vegetarian meals can be provided as long as they are requested beforehand). Supporters are welcome.
How to get there: Train to Hoofddorp NS and we can arrange a transfer to the ground.

Happy Pentecost/Whitsun/Pinksteren. Dear Stephen, We will be holding a Ceilidh later on in May – we would be pleased if members of the British Society want to come along. Money raised will go to the Mulanje Mission School in Malawi. I’d be glad if you could give it some publicity. Yours, John
